Cat skiing Chatter Creek’s vast playground of steeps, drops, rolls, old growth trees, gullies and pillows in waist-deep powder sounds like a dream. It can also be frustrating an intimidating without a coach by your side. How do you learn to improve in the moment? How can you keep up with the group, have fun, and still try new things?

Kate Howe’s Powder Playground camp at Chatter Creek to the rescue! Now, venture into deeper, steeper powder with great coaching by your side. Through afternoon Q and A, video analysis, tech talks, and on snow, real time tips and tricks, watch your skiing and riding improve dramatically!

All participants receive a set of LEKI gloves , skiers will receive a set of LEKI poles. All participants get a swag bag with products from LEKI, POC, SportTube, RollerBlade, and Strafe Outerwear, as well as an opportunity to win a new POC helmet and Goggles, Boot Bag from SportTube, and major prizes from RollerBlade and Strafe. Campers get a logo’d t-shirt as well.

This is a rare opportunity to enhance your joy in the mountains by getting on the spot tips and tricks to help you rip, smile and truly get the most out of your time here at Chatter Creek.

What about slowing down the group? Isn’t instruction a lot of talking? Good question! We like to ski when we are on the snow, not talk. Kate has been coaching powder skiing in both Heli and Cat operations for a decade, and trust us, she likes to rip the pow rather than talk about it.

Tech talk and most instruction comes in the cat in between runs, with a focus for you at the top, and a review at the bottom. In the afternoons, video review and tech questions will help continue to clear up technical foundations, enabling you to ski with more ease and less frustration or fear on the next run.

Short tips will be given along the way to individual students, never lectures on snow.

I’m not good with tech stuff. It’s not the complicated, is it? No, actually, it’s not. Kate and Jon make it a point to be concise, clear and specific, and to teach you in the way you most want to be taught. This is an intensive, we only have four days to get you ripping, so we will offer a lot, but you only take what works for you.

I’m a good skier, I don’t need basic foundation stuff. Guess what? We ALL need basic foundation stuff! And lots of time, the better you are at skiing, the more a deeper understanding and practice of fundamental skills makes you and even better skier! All athletes have coaches. Don’t cheat yourself out of an opportunity to enjoy the sport you love even more!

Kate’s camp is all-inclusive: Early morning yoga and meditation to get you focused, loose and ready, on snow quick tips, in cat clarifications, apres ski beer and tech talk, and video analysis of your skiing or riding. Also included are pick-up at the Calgary airport, a stay at the Westin Calgary on either end of the trip, all instruction, insurance, and transport to and from Donald Heliport, as well sponsor gear, prizes and camp t-shirt.

Lynn Gurrantz had been skiing for 40 years, cat and heli skiing for at least 20 years when I began working with her this season. After three days of powder/steeps/trees lessons, she had dramatically improved her skiing and could ski with confidence in places she had previously had the DESIRE to ski well, but not the technique:

“We are flying home today and I wanted to thank you again. My skiing has really improved and I feel on the verge of actually being a good skier! I am for the first time truly understanding the fundamentals and how to achieve them. Obviously I am still formulating these skills but I had always before just muddled through the list of things I should do without a solid concept of the whole picture. What an exciting time for me to ski! It's actually fun!”

What is a Delk? Is it some weird Scandinavian word? Possibly some long-standing English family name? Or could it be the unholy union of a Deer and an Elk?

Regardless, Jon Delk is a habitant of Aspen, Colorado. He fills his winters teaching snowboarding and skiing out of Aspen/Snowmass. Whether its jumps, half-pipe, big powder lines, back-country or some strange mix of them all, you will see Jon Delk on snow most everyday.

Jon has spent time in New Zealand, Japan and all over Colorado seeking and destroying epic powder lines. He is an Examiner with the American Association of Snowboard Instructors, Certified in Avalanche Response and Backcountry Touring by the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council, NOLS Wilderness First Aid and CPR certified and generally a pretty nice guy.

Kate believes anything you love to do is more fun when you are good at it. Kate is a huge proponent of pushing your boundaries... but believes that you are moving the boundaries yourself through skill aquisition. Rather than just being more ok with feeling more scared and more out of controll as you test yourself on steeper and more technical terrain, Kate belives strongly in bringing skill set up, giving you a solid foundation that you know you can trust so you can truly rip with a sense of freedom, compitence and joy in terrain you could only dream about previously.

Kate is an examiner for PSIA-RM, a trainer for the Ski and Snowboard Schools of Aspen/Snowmass, a WFR, holds an AIARE Avalanche Cert 2 among other numerous qualifications. She is also a certified Yoga instructor and worked as the assistant to Saraswathi Jois (Ashtanga, Mysore, India), as well as a certified Massage Therapist who specializes in neck, back, and shoulder pain, manual therapies for sports excellence, and asian therapies.

Our camp is sponsored by LEKI! Registered Campers get a free pair of LEKI adjustable poles and gloves. Each camper also gets a swag bag including goodies from Strafe Outerwear and more of our amazing sponsors!
